In most of our practices we have three key positions. They are Optometrist, Dispensing Optician and Optical Assistant. To become an Optometrist you need to obtain a Bachelor of Optometry from the University of Auckland. To become a Dispensing Optician or Optical Assistant you need to work for a progressive employer like Carlisle Mason Optometrists who will train, support and encourage you to be all you can be.

We provide a training path to people who are new to the Optical industry which can lead to an internationally recognized qualification. A typical career path with Carlisle Mason Optometrists will look like this:

Stage One: Trainee Optical Assistant

• No Industry Knowledge

Stage Two: Optical Assistant

• Completed Modules 1 to 3 of the Optical Assistants training course.
• Is confident to assist clients with many of their glasses and contact lens queries.

Stage Three: Trainee Dispensing Optician

• Enrolled in the Optical Dispenser Course

Stage Four: Dispensing Optician

• Qualified Dispensing Optician
• Internationally recognized qualification
